Job Overview
Design for manufacture engineers will take the completed 3d CAD model of an Metrology fixture and, using their toolmaking/machining experience, break down the design into its components and decide how best to manufacture each item. They will be working with the various stakeholders on the shop floor to utilize machines to their capacity and also help avoid bottlenecks in certain areas.
Responsibilities (Summary)
- Collaborate with product designers to evaluate new designs for manufacturability and assembly (DFMA)
- Analyse existing manufacturing processes and identify areas for efficiency gains. Develop and implement manufacturing guidelines and best practices to maximize product quality and reduce waste.
- Work with 2D and 3D computer-aided design and manufacturing software (CAD/CAM)
- Model the designed component on the 'stock' material following engineering drawings to utilize raw materials efficiently
- Source material and kit production totes with relevant material and shop floor paperwork
- Participate in cross-functional team meetings to discuss design changes and production challenges
- Production of 2D working drawings for component manufacture to relevant manufacturing specifications.
Must Have
- Third-level qualification in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent degree) or higher
- Proven experience in toolroom operations, with at least 5 years in a similar role.
- Understanding GDP and GMP
- High level of competence in measurement methods and systems
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Good communication and teamwork abilities
- Experience with CNC machining and robotic automation
